Primer is an absolute necessity for us unlucky ones with oily skin. Smashbox has a variety of primers to choose from; however, this one has the best quality when compared to the rest. You can find this primer at Sephora, Ulta, and http://www.smashbox.com. It’s quite pricey costing $39.00 for 1 ounce, but there is a lot of product and lasts me a long amount of time. The primer is also available for $16.00 in a 0.50 oz tube. Buying the smaller size really allows you to give it a try before fully committing to the full-size. The primer comes in a light blue tube that must be squeezed in order for the product to come out.
The primer comes out quite thick from the tube as you can see from the photo above. However, the product is easily blended out when using your fingers. The primer has a slight cream color but that doesn’t add any benefit. The primer blurs my pores wonderfully and smooths out my skin texture! I have tried this primer with different foundations, including Revlon ColorStay and Kat Von Lock-It Tattoo foundation. It significantly increased the staying power of both foundations! I have very oily skin, which means summer is my worst nightmare because my foundation likes to slide right off. The primer definitely helps reduce this. I will say that my skin did become oily after about 4 hours, but that’s actually really good. It’s going to take a miracle product to completely control my oily face during the summer!
Smashbox has several different varieties of their Photo Finish Primers; however, this one is my absolute favorite. I have tried the Iconic Photo Finish Primer, which is the clear and original primer Smahbox created. I also tried the Photo Finish Color Correcting Primer in green, which is supposed to reduce redness. Both of these made my face oily in a short amount of time and they did not significantly make my foundation last longer. The Color Correcting Primer reduced the redness on my face very minimally. I felt like they were both missing something and this Pore Minimizing Primer really made up for what the others lacked!
So, is this primer worth the price tag? Yes, I would say the quality is amazing and perfect for those with oily skin and obvious pores. Primer is extremely important because it dramatically extends the wear of foundations for us ladies and gents with oily skin. The products I would recommend spending a little more money on is definitely primer and foundation because they make such a difference!
